Dear colleagues,

You are about 40 persons who have registered to the first workshop on AMBER Data reduction. This is very close to the limit of what we can handle. Therefore, with Gilles Duvert, who is responsible for the data reduction software in AMBER, we have decided to accept only the persons who can bring a laptop with linux (of any flavour, if possible recent) installed on it at the workshop. This will decrease the pressure on the LAOG team to provide correctly configured computers.

The workshop will consist in:
- presentation and status of the instrument
- presentations of the data reduction scheme of AMBER
- installation of the software on your computer
- exercizes on your computer on commissioning data
- presentation of JMMC tools to prepare your future AMBER proposals

we will work by small groups of 4 or 5 persons. We will make sure that there is a mix of advanced users and beginners so that the group can be partially autonomous.

If this is a problem for bringing a linux laptop, do not hesitate to contact us.

For the French participants, we have some money to pay for their travel and stay. Please contact Fabienne Boucard (Fabienne.Boucard@obs.ujf-grenoble.fr, 04.76.63.58.35) for further details.

I will leave Grenoble on 13 October 2004, for the second commissioning of AMBER with G. Duvert, G. Zins and others. I will not be available before 4 Nov 2004, so please try to fix travel arrangement by yourseleves or directly with Fabienne Boucard (Fabienne.Boucard@obs.ujf-grenoble.fr, +33.476.63.58.35).

Cheers,
Fabien Malbet.
