AMBER being upgraded
Tuesday 22 January 2008

The AMBER instrument is ongoing several changes since September 2007.

The detector chip has been changed in September 2007. This new detector has a much better detector noise level and changes have been made on its electronics to prevent electromagnetic interferences to occur (as was found on the previous detector).

The spectrograph is also being aligned to the new detector position. This implies heating the cold parts of the instrument (detector and spectrograph) and to move the different mirrors composing the cold spectrograph optics.

More news to come soon.
